Mold Removal
Mold removal is more widely known now than it is been in the past. Not long ago,
the typical homeowner may have only thought about mold when he or she saw it in the bathroom shower. In that situation, a quick spray of some mold remover seemed to solve the problem. However, people are realizing now that the issue of mold removal can involve more than that.
Mold is nothing more than a fungus. In the natural world, mold is actually a useful thing. One of the functions of mold is to cause food (or any other type of organic material) to decompose. This releases nutrients into the ground, from which other organisms can feed. Regardless of its nature of recycling, most homeowners still prefer to do without it.
For mold to grow, it requires an environment that includes 2 basic elements: moisture and darkness. It doesn’t need both of these elements all of the time, just some of the time. Think back to the example of your bathroom shower needing mold removal sometimes. Your shower is only wet part of the time, and it is only dark part of the time. But mold is opportunistic and will take whatever opportunity it can.
To a homeowner, this means that mold can usually be found growing on the exterior surface of the house. This is typically in the form of green mold or moss. It may not be visible from the curb, because mold will start in a tiny spot (or multiple tiny spots). This is where mold removal should start – before it has time to grow.
Some customers are quite surprised when we point out the existence of mold on the outside of their home. This is because when they had the siding installed, it was advertised as "maintenance free". Most people interpret this as meaning they don't have to do anything to take care of the siding for the life of the house. Unfortunately, that is not completely true. There may be no actual staining on the siding, but the mold will still be able to grow there, so mold removal will sometimes be required.
The other factor to consider is this: even though mold begins to grow on the outside of the siding, it doesn't remain there. If it is left to grow, it will eventually migrate to behind the siding (where there is more moisture and more darkness). At this point, the mold is actually on the surface of your home. If you have not had any mold removal done previously, chances are you have some mold behind the siding. This is something that should be taken care of as soon as possible.
We take care of the mold on the exterior of your home through the use of pressure washing. However, we do this a little differently than most other contractors. In many cases, someone that comes out to do a pressure washing will only use cold water. Cold water is less expensive and more easily accessible. However, there is a big difference. Cold water will remove most of the mold, but it does not remove / kill the mold completely. This means your house will look better than it did prior to the pressure washing because the appearance of mold is gone, but there is still some microscopic mold growth remaining on, as well as behind the siding.
When we perform mold removal, we pressure wash with very hot water. Not only does this do a better job of cleaning your home, it also actually kills all mold growth. This includes mold that is on the exterior of the siding, as well as the mold that is behind the siding. We feel very strongly that this is the proper and professional way to do this job, and most homeowners agree when they understand what is involved.
We offer pressure washing, paint and stain services in the tri-state area including Manhattan, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Mount Laurel, Newark, Jersey City, Middletown, Edison, Holmdel and Rumson.
